I started out as an embroiderer but about 12 years ago became interested in quilting. After a visit to the Festival of Quilts, I became a member of the Quilters Guild and more recently I joined the Contemporary Quilt Group.
I am also a felt maker, both wet and needlefelted, so often combine quilting, embroidery and felt into textile art. However far a drift from quilting, I will come back to the order and discipline of quilting which I think must have come from my love of maths and all things geometric from my childhood.
I particularly like experimenting with all the wonderful new fabrics and notions that we are so lucky to have nowadays. In most cases I always include some hand stitching!
I am part of a textile group, Thread and Shutter and we aim to exhibit at least every two years which always gives me a focus for my work. I like working in series as I find one piece will inspire another. My work in the past has been inspired by rusty objects which resulted in two series of work entitled corrosion and Oxidisation. my most recent series of work was entitled "Seen From Above" which used maps and aerial photos for inspiration.
